Research

The Trust welcomes applications for grants from academics, students (UG/PG) and others to help with research expenses and/or publication costs.

Applications for small grants of under £200 by students can be made at any time, using the attached form. You will only need a reference from your supervisor and you can be fairly brief in filling in the various sections.

For larger grants, of around £500, you should complete the form and nominate your own two referees. For grants of around £1,000 the Trust may additionally wish to send the proposal out for external refereeing.

For project requiring funds in excess of £1,000 you are advised to make a preliminary inquiry, by email, in the first instance to the Secretary. It may be you have a proposal for a co-operative application for more substantial external funding.

Examples: The Trust has recently funded several students for visits to the Marsh for hand augering as part a wider project to determine the age and extent of peat beds underlying Walland Marsh. It has also paid expenses for field work by local historians looking for evidence of small riverene ports.

An application form for a Romney Marsh Research Trust grant is available in PDF (Portable Document Format) (application form) or word (x.doc) if you wish to fill it out electronically (application form 2). Please complete and email to secretary@rmrt.org.uk.

You may find our guidance notes helpful in completing your application form. You will normally be expected to write a short piece for our newsletter The Romney Marsh Irregular. If you wish to become a member, you can download a membership form for mailing to the Membership Secretary
